1986年大阪府生まれ。5歳より小豆島在住。富山と東京で鋳金を学び、現在は小豆島の「宮の森鋳造工房」を拠点に活動。素材採取を起点に個人史を収集し、制作と執筆を行う。「しょうどしま民俗座談会」メンバーとして、島のかつての暮らしの聞き書きとZINEの発行に携わる。

Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1986, Shibata has lived on Shodoshima since the age of five. After studying metal casting in Toyama and Tokyo, she is now based at Miyanomori Foundry Studio on Shodoshima. Through material gathering, she collects personal histories that inform her artistic practice, writing, and research. She is a member of the Shodoshima Minzoku Zadankai (Shodoshima Folklore Roundtable), where she conducts oral history interviews about the island’s former ways of life and contributes to the publication of its zine.

播磨灘の海底泥の分析過程で生じた廃金属の銀と銅を素材に、鋳金作家の柴田早穂と沿岸海洋学を専門とする中國正寿が小さな金属彫刻を制作しました。それらの素材は研究の痕跡であり、環境と私たちの暮らしを見つめるまなざしを象徴するものです。本作では、「海底泥の分析」「分野横断的な協働」「融合的なアーカイブ」をキーワードに、科学と芸術の対話を試みました。制作の過程や、環境と私たちの暮らしをめぐる対話は、写真家／映像作家の坪佐利治によって記録されています。完成した彫刻は、海洋研究者の胸元でアクセサリーとして身につけられ、潮風を浴びながら、これからの航海と研究の物語をともに紡いでいきます。Using silver and copper waste generated during the analysis of seafloor sediment from Harima-nada, metal casting artist Saho Shibata and coastal biogeochemist Masatoshi Nakakuni of the Coastal Biogeochemistry Laboratory created a series of small metal sculptures. These materials are traces of scientific research, symbolizing a perspective through which we observe both the environment and our everyday lives.
This work explores a dialogue between science and art through three key themes: seafloor sediment analysis, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a hybrid archive. The process of making the work, as well as conversations surrounding the environment and everyday life, were documented by photographer and filmmaker Toshiharu Tsubosa.
The completed sculptures are worn as accessories by Masatoshi Nakakuni during his research activities. Exposed to the sea breeze, they accompany future voyages and research journeys, carrying forward new stories yet to be told.

鋳物の素材採取をきっかけに島をめぐり、これまで気がつかなかった小豆島の姿に出会っていきます。島の歴史や環境や人々の暮らしを理解するために、暮らしと制作を緩やかにつなげる試行錯誤の日々の記録です。Travelling across Shodoshima in search of materials for metal casting, the artist encountered previously unnoticed aspects of the island. Seeking to better understand its history, environment, and the lives of its people, this work documents an ongoing process of experimentation that gently connects everyday life and artistic practice.
