私は、鋳金を新しい視点で捉え、型に流し込むことでうまれる現象を再考し表現としています。工芸が常に向き合う素材の中で、鋳金として自然が持つ揺るぎない力をも感じながら、作品を制作する過程でうまれる偶然性と現実の自然界で起こり得る偶然性を重ね合わせてできる象が作品の核となっています。
そして、私は常に「ものが失われていくかたち」に惹かれています。失われるかたちは植物や生物などが『死』として語られることもありますが、その中で失われていったものが何らかの偶然性において、その後にそれとは違うものとして再生し得る世界があるように思えます。まるで闊達に蠢く細胞が分裂によって生まれ変わる瞬間のようなものでもあるかと思います。目視しても決して視ることのできない世界が、渦巻くミクロな姿としてあるのかも知れません。そして、それらが蠢く時間は時として密に生死の狭間の中に何かしら関係しているようにも思えます。そのようにミクロな世界観に移し替えて想像した時に、現世で感じられている時間とは異次元の莫大な時間が生まれてくるような気がしてならないのです。
私はそのような「失われていく瞬間」が持っている「時間」や「ものが持つ形態感」を偶然性の中で、或いは必然的なものとして制作をしています。I approach metal casting from a new perspective, reconsidering the phenomena that arise from metal poured into molds and expressing this as art. Among the materials used in craft, I feel nature’s unwavering power through the casting of metal, and the core of my work lies in the forms created by overlaying chance occurrences in the natural world with those that emerge during the process of making artwork.
And, I’m constantly drawn to “the forms of things being lost.” Those lost forms are sometimes spoken of as the “death” of plants and living beings, but perhaps there exists a world where chance occurrences enable the rebirth of things that have been lost. It could be like the instances when vigorously writhing cells are reborn through division. There may be worlds that exist as swirling microscopic forms, unseen even when looked at directly. And, those moments of writhing could be closely related to what happens on the threshold between life and death. When I shift my imagination to this microscopic worldview, I can’t help but feel the emergence of an immense time, one that is completely different from the time we experience in our present world.
I capture “time” and “sense of form” laden within such “moments that are being lost,” whether through chance or as something inevitable.
